Jonathan Demme options Stephen King's 11/22/63

Jonathan Demme has snapped up the feature film rights to Stephen King's as-yet-unpublished novel 11/22/63.The Silence Of The Lambs director will also write the script and serve as producer on the movie.King's novel follows Jake Epping, a thirty-five-year-old high school English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine. When Jake's friend Al - who runs the local diner - reveals that his storeroom is a portal to 1958, the pair embark on a mission to try to prevent the Kennedy assassination. If it all sounds a bit Nicholas Lyndhurst in Goodnight Sweetheart, we can only hope it aims much, much higher than that. The book is released on 8 November 2011 but Demme doesn't expect to start production until late in 2012.
